The first workday of Anti-Procrastination Month I tried something new. Monday morning I woke up and decided to work through my “needs to be done” pile in whatever order it fell into my hand. I end so many days feeling like I’ve wasted too much of them that it didn’t seem to be such a bad idea. The worst case scenario was I’d end the day feeling like I wasted it (again) because I didn’t make a list and prioritize it and check off each item in the order it really needed to be done. And yet… my new method worked.
At least for that one day.
I posted blogs on three sites where I’m supposed to be posting, ran an errand to the corner store, did three loads of laundry, wrote birthday and mother’s day and anniversary cards, wrapped my husband’s anniversary present, made homemade cookies, paid some bills, watched a chick flick and some TV shows with my husband, and went to bed at a decent hour.
So Tuesday I sort of tried it again. I didn’t sleep very well (didn’t feel very good) but got up at 5:45am to run 3 miles with my husband. Took a shower (the world always seems better after a shower!), loaded the laundry machine, unloaded the dishwasher and climbed back into bed with my Bible. After I talked to God (trying to get the important stuff in first so I don’t feel bad at the end of the day), I did some Bible research for an angels/demons story I’m going to be working on soon. Then I ate some of yesterday’s homemade cookies and worked on some other projects in bed. The fact that I was in bed not feeling well but NOT watching TV seemed like an achievement to me. AND because my computer wasn’t in bed with me, I think I might’ve spent less time reading and checking email, which freed up time for those projects I worked on.
That’s what I’d hoped to do this month. And my To Do List for Anti-Procrastination Month is getting some things checked off! (Yes, even without making a list each day!) I sent in the Christmas story on May 1. And I’m working on another submission for the rejected article.
First week – good start. How about yours? How’s it going?

So far, this month hasn’t been very productive on the personal writing front. Professionally, I’m on a tear, so maybe that’s where all my energy is going. But I’d sure like to make some progress — even if it’s just an outline!
Keep going, Carol Anne! The fact that ANY part of your life is on a tear is something to celebrate and be grateful for as far as I’m concerned! LOL! I’m going to try to take Mona’s advice from yesterday and write even little bits of outline ideas or brainstorming ideas in those little blocks of 5 or 15 minutes. We’ll see how that goes this month!
