We’ve arrived! It has been a trip! Exhausting and full of weird, funny, overwhelming experiences in a totally different culture. Even in this short time, though, we’ve made a few friends and are settling into a routine. As I said last week, my husband and I have decided to teach English overseas. We are in a small town in China. Well, relatively small. In a country that numbers in the billions, 2-3 million is a small population.
Today is our first official workday. We’ve been in and out of the office a lot, being trained, setting up work areas, planning lessons, even participating in a special outing with the students, but this is the first day we’ll be teaching. It should be fun.
I have internet at the office, and we should be getting it at our apartment within a week. While my work schedule is full-time, I do have a lot of free time even within the workday. That means you should notice no change in the blog schedule. (Although there is sure to be a change in some of the topics I discuss. LOL) The one thing that will change is that I won’t be able to facebook or twitter. Both those sites are blocked from access. Unless something happens, though, my blog postings should happen right on time.
All these new experiences are opening the floodgates of ideas. This is not unexpected. Routine is good. Routine gets things accomplished. Routine makes sure the important things are not forgotten. But routine can also dull creativity. Regular breaks in routine are good. (In other words, create a routine of breaking the routine?) A total routine upset can also be good to break the mind out of ruts it didn’t realize were present. Where are you in your writing life? Needing to break a routine? Or establish one?
