1. The first day is always the easiest.
2. It’s fun to write like crazy with thousands of other writers.
3. I’ve learned that if a scene takes me forever to write and there is a whole lot of staring up at the ceiling, it means the scene is really boring and I’ll probably have to scrap it Dec 1st.
4. It’s less about the word count and more about what’s good for the story.
5. My homeschooled kids think they are getting away with something when they ask if we can start our day doing NaNo YWP (Young Writer’s Program). So, why, during the rest of the year, do I have to beg them to write more than five sentences?
6. It feels really good to get 1000 words written before lunch.
7. Entering in my word count after every rush of words is rewarding, even if all of us doing the same thing causes their system to crash.
8. I find NaNo success stories incredibly encouraging, like this Twitter post from @HeleneBoudreau
And what else? REAL MERMAIDS DON’T WEAR TOE RINGS (out Dec 1st/2010!!) was my 2007 #nanowrimo project. Dream big, nano-ers! It happens!
9. I can write just 100 more words in order to make it to a certain goal on my stats page.
10. Even if you aren’t participating in NaNo, you should check out Debbie Ohi and Errol Elumir’s cartoons. They crack me up. Really, go look now: NaNoToons Week 1

Lol! Love this post! I especially love #6. I’m just happy to get that much written before dinner time! Of course, now I’m procrastinating on finishing my last 200 words for the day. I’m a little ridiculous like that.
