*Gulp* I can’t believe I’m seriously thinking about switching up my November routine. See, here’s the thing. I’ve been working on a big revision and am waiting to hear back on how things are going. In the meantime, since I plunged back into that story world I’ve been thinking about a second book. The next book. A perfect NaNo novel…if the first book was close to selling. But, since that’s not where the first book is at, I shouldn’t start the second, right?
Then there’s this other project I’ve been putting off for awhile now. Partly because it isn’t necessary at this point in my writing career. Partly because it scares me.
My own blog. With no blogmates to cover the other days. With no blogmates to share responsibilities. With no blogmates to hold me accountable. An all-alone-stand-on-my-own-two-feet blog.
Thinking about starting my own blog now is ironic considering all the writerly talk lately about blog fatigue and the pointlessness of writer’s blogs (time sucks, ineffective, need a kazillion followers to move the needle anyway).
But at some point I’ll need an author website. A place for readers to land if they hear about my book or my name and want to learn more. And on that website I’ll need to talk about other stuff besides writing.
What other stuff? What audience should I aim at considering my reading audience (middle grade/tween) won’t be hanging out on my blog when they would rather be on a site that has computer games and funny videos?
Ah, these are the things my NaNo Rebel time can be about. My two writing projects that aren’t really novels.
1. A detailed outline for a potential book two. Since my head is already in that story world, I can get it out of my system, but in a flexible format.
2. A blog-every-day challenge for my personal website in a quest for finding my author-blog voice. I guess if I were really serious, I’d actually launch that personal blog. But I’m not that serious yet.
This is NaNo time. Time for experimentation. Time to do some things I wouldn’t normally do.

They both sound good.
I’m glad you’re doing something for Nano even being a NanoRebel is still part of Nanowrimo. I love it. I look forward to seeing those little progress bars growing.
Your last two sentences suggest you subconsciously know what you want to work on.
Good luck! You can do it!
